Groundhog Day

Unless you live in a cave (in which case, you're not reading this), Punxsutawney Phil didn't see his shadow today which means we're in for a short winter. If Houston is any indicator, I could have told you that. We've had the prettiest January I ever remember!

The tradition of predicting the length of the remaining winter is intertwined with the Christian holiday, Candlemas. Clergy would bless candles symbolizing the "light of the world" to give to their congregation. Who knew?

And I spent another beautiful day at the horse races, but sadly lost $22. A small price to pay for a fun afternoon. I'm happy that I have friends who enjoy it as much as I do (and are willing to drive).
